A Historic Opening: Hove Beach Park Welcomes the UK’s First Public Outdoor Roller Rink in Decades!

We are excited to celebrate a landmark achievement in our city with the opening of the Hove Beach Park roller rink! This facility is believed to be the first publicly accessible free outdoor roller rink built in the UK in decades, marking a significant milestone for roller sports enthusiasts.

What’s New?
At the western end of Hove Beach Park, adjacent to the Lagoon, the roller rink offers a welcoming space for quad and inline skaters of all ages and skill levels. With its vibrant atmosphere and accessible design, the rink aims to become a hub for both casual skaters and serious athletes.

A Long-Fought Victory for the Community
The journey to establish this roller rink has been a long and passionate endeavour spearheaded by the Brighton skate team. Dedicated advocates, including Kris “Skatemeister” Ward, Stu Grace, and Asha Kirkby, have tirelessly campaigned for a dedicated rink and jam space for years. Their commitment has culminated in this remarkable achievement, showcasing the power of community advocacy.

Just 30 minutes after its unexpected opening on a Friday evening, Matt, Kris, Grace, and Stu were among the first to hit the rink, celebrating this long-awaited moment.

Designed for Everyone
The Hove Beach Park roller rink is designed with inclusivity in mind, catering to skaters of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn or an experienced skater wanting to showcase your skills, the rink provides a safe and enjoyable environment.

The roller rink is part of a larger effort to enhance leisure facilities across the city, which also includes an amazing new plaza-style skate park and a BMX pump track in the same area. In a survey conducted in 2022, over 2,700 residents voiced their support for a roller rink, highlighting the demand for this vital facility.

Join the Fun!
The day after the opening, we quickly organised an all-afternoon roller disco, attracting visitors from as far afield as London and Bournemouth! Since then, the rink has been consistently busy, and we anticipate this trend will continue.

We invite everyone to come down, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, and remember to stick to the rink rules. Don’t hesitate to ask for tips from some of the more experienced skaters; they’re more than happy to help you improve your skills!
