Every Tuesday – during the lighter months of the year, join us for a skate through the streets of Brighton and Hove (Weather permitting)
This is an intermediate to advanced skate, in the road with music and lights – we’d love for you to join us on quads or inlines – but you must be able to control your speed and stop easily. Please read the rules below before attending
We meet at 7:30pm every dry Tuesday between May and October at skate-henge – on the seafront in front of the i360, slightly to the East at the bottom of the ramp for an 8pm start

The Rules
‘Brighton Skate’ is not a formal organisation, it’s just the name given to a Facebook group and to the gathering of adult individual skaters (for children please read Duty of Care) who meet up for a skate each week. If you join the skate on Tuesday evenings (May through September) or any other skate agreed with other members via the Facebook group, you skate at your own risk. As a skater you must exercise your Duty of Care (see below) responsibilities towards other participants and are responsible for your own safety and for any harm you may cause to yourself and to others.
Duty of Care
Street skating is a sport of medium to high risk, where people on skates share the roads with other road users. Participation in this activity may cause injury and even death.
‘Brighton Skate’ has no official management, including coaches, referees, coordinators, administrators, caretakers and owners whom to held responsible of Duty of Care in an official capacity. All skaters are persons who participate in the skate as ‘players’ and ‘helpers’ (when marshalled) and who share the Duty of Care to make the skate as safe as possible for anyone who participates.
‘Brighton Skate’ is open to adult skaters. The participation of children and yound persons under the age of 18 will only be allowed under the direct supervision of an adult (maximum 2 minors per adult) who will be responsible for providing the Duty of Care to the children and/or young persons in question. The children and/or young persons will be owed a Duty of Care by the accompanying adult. The adult must supervise and make sure all Health and Safety rules are known and understood by the children and/or young persons. No child or young person under the age of 18 without adult supervision will be allowed to take part in the skate.
Prior to every Tuesday skate a ´Health and Safety’ (please see below) statement will be announced to all participants as a clear effort to make the skate as safe as possible.
Health and Safety
- You skate at your own risk. There are no persons on hand who can respond appropriately to emergencies.
- You must know how to brake and you should be able to control your speed.
- This skate is a medium/high skater level activity and unless you feel confident on your wheels, being surrounded by more experienced skaters may give you a sense of danger and insecurity at times.
- Respect pedestrians, cyclists and all road users, trying to keep them, other skaters and yourself as safe as possible.
- When on a road or cycle lane, indicate to other the approach of a bycicle or vehicle by raising your hand.
- When a hand is raised all skaters must form a single file and avoid creating any dangerous situation to cyclists, pedestrians, other skaters and any road users.
- When so indicated, never skate beyond or after individuals pointed out as head and rear of the skate group.
- Skating on pavements is illegal. Unless necessary, avoid skating on any pavements.
- All skaters should make use of lights to facilitate being seen when using the road at dusk and night.
- Skating under the influence of alcohol or any other substance and behaviour that may increase the possibility of injury will be discouraged and action will be taken against persistent perpretators of inappropriate behaviour. You will be asked to leave the skate and you will be removed from the Facebook group.
- The use of protective clothing/equipment like helmets, wrist, knee and elbow pads is highly recommended for your own safety.
- Any adult accompanying a child and/or young persons under 18 years of age must make sure the children and/or young persons know and understand these rules.
- As with any other sport activity practised outdoors, you can also get sports insurance cover to protect yourself against personal injury and public liability while skating.
- The Tuesday evening skate is a weather dependent activity and the Facebook group wall will be used to announce that the weather is likely to be clear enough to skate, at around 4-5pm. Skaters can then gather, weather permitting, from 7:30 pm by the West Pier and the skate will start at 8 pm. We aim to return to the same spot between 9:30 pm and 10 pm. Participation is entirely free.
